Join the Lake-Cook Chapter AND the Illinois Audubon Society
Lake-Cook Audubon is a Chapter of the Illinois Audubon Society. Locally, we conduct bird field trips in Lake & Cook County and Northeast Illinois enjoying the incredible resources of the Lake County Forest Preserves District, Lake Forest Open Lands, Illinois Beach State Park as well as occasional access to private property and permit-only access to environmentally sensitive public lands. Lake County is located within the migratory flyway and offers habitat ranging from the shores of Lake Michigan, scores of inland lakes, tall grass savannas, bogs and wetlands.
As a Chapter of the Illinois Audubon Society (IAS) we influence state-wide initiatives to manage and preserve environmentally significant areas throughout the state. With the support of its members, IAS has scored a number of significant successes in achieving its mission and continues to work to this end. The Illinois Audubon Society is not affiliated with the National Audubon Society. Membership in the National Audubon Society does not confer member benefits to you from the Illinois Audubon Society or the Lake-Cook Chapter.
The Lake-Cook Chapter receives $10 of your membership dues with the balance going to the Illinois Audubon Society. We use the local dues to support our modest expenses for programs & facilities. Most of our programs are held at Heller Nature Center, a beautiful facility which is part of the Park District of Highland Park.
