Baker’s Lake Heronry: 16 Years of Restoration Success @ Heller Nature Center | Highland Park | Illinois | United States

Baker’s Lake Heronry near Barrington – one of the most significant heron rookeries in the Midwest – was reconstructed in 2000 in a nationally award-winning project that has perpetuated the breeding of Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Double-crested Cormorant and the state- endangered Black-crowned Night Heron.  It’s also the cornerstone of Baker’s Lake Nature Preserve, an Audubon Important Bird Area. Robert Sliwinski, Senior Wildlife Biologist from Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd. will detail the road to island design, nesting success and data trends over the years of this successful artificial nesting project.
