Nightjars like Eastern Whip-poor-will, Common Nighthawk and Chuck-will’s-widow arrive in Illinois in spring, stay to breed, and provide some of summer’s best nocturnal birding. Illinois Natural History Survey biologist Tara Beveroth will discuss the natural history of nightjars, where they can be found in Illinois, and population declines that are affecting two of the three species in the state.
