The Quest to Find and Save the World’s Largest Owl @ Online - Zoom

When he was a fledgling birdwatcher, Jonathan C. Slaght had a chance encounter with the endangered Blakiston’s Fish Owl – a highly elusive species that lives in the remote forests of eastern Russia. That led to a grueling five-year research project chronicled in “Owls of the Eastern Ice: A Quest to Find and Save the World’s Largest Owl” – a combination adventure/conservation story longlisted for the 2020 National Book Award for Nonfiction and included on multiple Best Book of the Year lists. Slaght will share his experiences – including snowmobiling and trucking across frozen rivers in the dead of winter in one of the most remote areas on earth – as well as what he learned about the charismatic species that hunts fish by wading in icy waters.
