Last January, Field Museum bird curator John Bates joined eight other researchers and three crew in a month-long expedition that involved traveling 3,400 miles by sailboat from the Falkland Islands to the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia Island, and back to the Falklands. The goal was to sample multiple penguin colonies across this vast region for genetic and dietary research on nine different penguin species. John will take us on an armchair journey providing insights into the diversity of this remote part of the planet, including penguins and much more.
